Welding gas arrived... Game on!
« on: July 21, 2011, 16:29:10 PM »
After a period of insolvency I now have enough dosh to crack on with my Capri
For the princely sum of £105 +15 delivery I now have welding gas again - £60 of which is deposit I can get back if I decide to return the cylinder. Its a 10L filled to 200bar with the equivalent of Argoshield light (what I used when I was part of the BOC cult) but WITHOUT ongoing rental so all I'll ever have to pay is £45 a time to refill it. They are in St.Albans which is only half hour drive too. I phoned yesterday and it arrived today - me is well happy bunny ;D

incase anyone else is interested - http://barnet-welding.co.uk/products-page/gas/

thats cheap.

in the netherlands you almost pay 3 times for that same bottle. the refill is also more $$$.

i bought a new 20l bottle with 1 pure argon filling for my tig welder, that was £334.20 if i had to pay the normal price.

the guy that sold it to me made a misstake in the bill ;D save me 100 euro's. ;D

would'nt it be easier if you get the rack threaded and then just use a male to male adaptor? just think if later you have a problem with it then you will buggered untill you get another one made, i would keep fittings standard of the shelf jobbies if i was you.
I will ask him but manufacturing jic fittings is more specialist than he could deal with tbh, but you never know

This way the rack would stay standard and that will prob leak once it starts after sitting so long :'( Would it not need the rack pulled apart for threading to stop the swarf getting in and then if the rack failed I would need to thread another one. You have given me an idea though, maybe get a dash 8 to whatever adapter machined to fit then the harder part is ready made? Does that sound easier and also get a spare done as well at the same time?

yeah maybe a -8 male bulkhead adaptor may have enough meat on it to machine off.yeah your right about the rack it would need stripping to thread it but theres not alot to them and yes come to think off it you would buggered either way,can you not just weld a steel -8 fitting to an original ford line.

this looks like it will do but not sure whether there is enough on the m14 side to machine, but something like that he can do

Cheers Guys,

I have been using these guys and loads of adapter here

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Torques-U-K/AN-6-Adapters-/_i.html?rt=nc&_fsub=582624012&_sid=81447352&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1513&_pgn=4

I have a few adapters here the dash 6 in a m14 looks promising for the pressure side. On the low pressure side I have fitted the cooler and flow and return already in dash 8 but I can adapt tis to dash 6 if it is the only way. In dash 8 I only have a m16 adapter here but  the dash 8 in a m14 may still work. But I think the I/D is a concern so maybe a dash 6 to 12mm on the pressure and a dash 8 or 6 to 14 mm on the low pressure side?

What do you guys think ?

Cheers Ade

i would get 2 weld on 6 an or 8 an adaptors and tig weld them om the line you already have.
you also need to order a adpater that fits the pump and goes to -an.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-AN6-Male-Mild-Steel-Weld-Fitting-Bung-/170651377739?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27bb9d604b

special on the pressure side (1100 psi) i would weld it to the line.
