Another good XR3i bites the dust.

Found a Black 1989 XR3i down a mate`s scrapyard this morning. Another victim of the scrappage scheme.......came from the local Guildford or Farnborough Inchcape Ford as it was sign written with scrappage details down the side.

Engine ripped out but looked like it was a efi model, 5x good 14" dogleg alloys with good tyres, interior was abit grubby with afew cig holes but I`ve seen worst. Sills were good but just needed rear arches. Probably would have looked good with a t-cut and polish. Could not believe someone traded it in all those months ago.

If they had not of dumped another car on top and bent the roof/smashed the screen I`d of saved it there and then, even without the documents. I`ve saved afew goodies from it today but I`m going back tomorrow to strip the rest of it

It makes you sick when you see some of the cars traded in on the scrappage

I found a puma in silver, 1.7 lump, keys in it, started and ran like a dream, only 48000 on the clock to, apart from a broken wing mirror it was mint also found a 350 bhp scooby wagon mk1 again keys in was able to run it, and had a cheeky spin up the yard in it, nothing wrong with it. found 4 scorpios in that yard to, all 2.3's but had been stacked

and it gets wurse.

yesterday, my poor fiesta 1.1 lost its brakes. opend the hood and found the master brake cylinder leaking bad. so off the the car breaker. normaly they have at least 10 or more fiesta's for breakdown.

and gues how much fiesta's i found this morning after visting 3 car breakers?

1 and its master brake cylinder was leaking as well    so no wurry, mk3 escort use the same master brake cylinder, guess how many i found off those?

all the old cars are getting shredded in a hurry now, because off the high price off steel, aluminium and cooper.

in the end i had to order a new one. and the car parts sellers knows that the old cars are getting scrapped very fast now and that starts to get difficult to find parts for these old fiesta's at the car scrappers and yunkyards.

that little master brake cylinder now cost 107 euro ( 80 pounds) here. last year that same master cylinder only cost around 25 euro (40 pounds). it was the cheapest one i could find with 30% discount, here.

luckly there is something like ebay. got mine for 30 pound whit postage.

moral of the story.

before you bring your old car to the scrappers, grab every part you can and store it somewhere. and dont trow away old parts.

its getting more and more difficult to get parts for older cars and are getting more $$$$$.
