Ford Taunus MK2 (Rallycross)
« on: August 28, 2010, 13:22:21 PM »
I bought this car in august 2007 like this,

At that moment the car was the 1600 pinto engine with single carb (so 70hp)

Ather a respray and some triming,

The next thing I did, and it was stupid. We installad a fast road cent cam and the 32/36 carb from a 2liter i had.

After a couple of races, i needed more, lots more so, the winter of 2008-2009 we made a 2.0 full race pinto.

a little part list:

KENT CAMS ADJUSTABLE ALLOY CAM PULLEY
KENT CAMS SUPERSPORTS R CAMSHAFT KIT (HT1)
INLET VALVE 1.750" (44.5mm)
EXHAUST VALVE 1.500" (38.1mm)

ACCRALITE FORGED PISTON 94mm
FARNDON EN24V STEEL H SECTION CON ROD, 5.060": COSWORTH YB + ARP bolts
HIGH PRESSURE/HIGH CAPACITY OIL PUMP
FLYWHEEL BOLT CAP HEAD M10x1x30: COSWORTH YB
WEBERS 45 (x2)
INLET MANIFOLD SOHC PINTO 2xDCOE 1.15"
PIPERCROSS KK600 CARBURETTOR BASE PLATE: 2xDCO/SP
PIPERCROSS KK600 DUAL AIR FILTER ELEMENT: 40mm HIGH
AP RACING CLUTCH KIT: SOHC PINTO 215mm

so alot of cash for me.

In april we had everthing ready, was on the rolling road for running in the engine. (did 8 hours or so)

after some power runs it exploded. Lots of fun!

this is before

this is after:

So after it killed itself it went out and is still in the same place in the shed i left it when i took it out. The block if cracked, head is dagamed, 1 conrod and piston are fooked, but the rest is still oke, for a reuse or rather resell. But cant really part from it yet.

So after that, i didnt want to reinstall the 1600 engine (better had done that) i bought a 2.0 EFI engine, raced the a whole year like that because i didnt have any money (lost it all on the fooked race engine)

This are some pics from the 2009 season with the 2.0 efi pinto engine.

In novemerber 2009 i found the RS2000 engine. This one was converted to carbs so useable for me.
So in the winter from 2009-2010 we installed the engine with an other gearbox MT75 from sorpio.

new engine:

The engine in the car:

It went to a rolling road:

It pulled verry nice, compared to the 2.0 efi pinto engine.

So the things that we did on the car over the years now.

- It has a fully rebuild front axle with poly bushed and spax adjustables and new V6 Taunus springs

- A 2.3 Taunus radiator with a on off fan i controll.

- a custom sump gard, from front lip till gearbox.

- a custom propshaft to take the MT75 gearbox to the koln axle.

- a cusom 2:1 steering kolum.  Works great, would like servo.

- Rear axle fully polly bushed and spax adjustables and new V6 Taunus springs and a double anti rol bar.

- Custom Fuel tank in boot of car with eletric fuel pomp

- plexy windows in the sides, rear and front are still glass.

- Custom made elektric loom to fit this engine,

Thats it i think.  Any questions  just ask and advice even more welcom,

Last weekend i fooked my diff, it was welded and it broke, lots of people told me that the koln axle is crap and till now i dont believe it, the weld lasted 2 years of racing so, I found a new sateliet housing,  Diff isnt broke, the satelits from the diff are.

So this one is going to be an other sort of welding on it so it hopefully is stronger, but need to do some research and find a good welder.
