It has nothing to do with gearbox or vss.

Disconnect the idle speed valve.

Adust the throttle stop  so it runs at 500 rpm.

Then reconnect the idle speed valve.

The ECU would want to run at 650 rpm but adjusting the throttle the ISCV don't have to work as much.

My 2.9 4x4 and 2.9 4i both cut out when aproaching junctions if the VSS was not connected.

And according to the book " Ford Fule Injection and Engine Control "

Stratergy 8 Deceleration

"Air bypas open to avoid stall"

The only way to determin deceleration is with a G-Meter or to work out how fast you are going and if its decreasing... Hmmm The VSS perhaps..

In fact the book gives a good description of the operation and the part played by the VSS.

connect the VSS, so the ecu knows when you are decelerathing and there is also a cable (black/red) coming from ecu pin 2 to the switched side off the brake switch. when connected, the ecu knows when your are breaking.

I had to move the throttle stop a long way to stop it stalling. But as said above I don't have the vss connected, lost the cable doh.

TT does the book say what affect the loss of airflow meter signal will do?

the engine will stall and drive like crap.

ecu pin 3 (yellow/brown) is the vss signal, than you need a 12v feed and a earth.

Don't know what the book says, but the management would go to limp mode using whatever data is left from the PIP, ECT  VSS and whatever else is left like the fuel rail temp...

The 24V combines the IAT and Air Mass, 12V has the IAT in one of the meters.
