My Mondeo diesel auto is quicker than the manual version, tested side by side up a M6 slip road, every gear change of his put me ahead by nearly half a car length

My god thik of the tailbacks caused by that

i tested a few new cars and found they cant acualy do what they say they do,,,
its known there is only one car that does have a true times published

watching Focus ST's and fiesta St's at ford fair i can confirm this they where all slow as hell without exception, onyl the older cars with there basic non-nanny state ECU's or carbs went fast.

My brother is 'forced' to use an auto due to a disability, sadly his disability means he is financialy unable to enjoy the "sport" we all love. I've toy'ed with the idea of an auto project for him to 'borrow'

maybe future "Project RWD Mondeo st24 TT" could be auto.

ouch i'd hate to have to buy all those head gaskets and bottom ends though.

surely a granny 24v TT would make more sense as all you have to do is put in a twin turbo kit.

Or just get a fast auto car?

Surely the fact that autos 'can' be quicker than manuals was obvious before this topic... :-S
Straight outta the factory manuals will win but jack off the luxury and pleasantries outta the auto and there's no way a human moving cogs is as quick as a tweaked auto box... Especially when you through the crap ratios of the MT75 into the mix...
Just my useless 2p worth :-D
P.s should you carry on...?
Yup...
Not because i can beat it but because the look on peoples faces when a old xr4i leaves them on green as if they were standing still is priceless... :-)
Want a target figure...?
Standard engine, full interia, etc etc...
Just play with box/dif etc...

If you compare a standard 24v Granada to a 24v manual, the auto will win 0-60 because it will have torque throughout the gearchange.

BUT a manual wil have less hp/torque loss through the drive train and will win on the long haul/top speed.

I think Tony MOB did a good job on his XR4i and he would smoke a few cars at a traffic light sprint.

I've had a few rides in his car and I can say its fu**ing quick of the mark.
