can I ask you if the paint you got was a base coat or was it a direct gloss i.e was a laquer sprayed over the colour?

You're saying you're not happy with a paint job.  What does the garage say?

had a quick word with the sprayer I use, he can't see any way that would cover a car the size of a seirra with just over two liters, was it the whole car you got sprayed or just some of the panels? for a two k paint it would take a pot and a quarter to put one coat on, but that would be mixed. he recons for four good coats would use just over three liters.
then to the second question I asked if you bought a base coat paint, if so just under three liters would be required, but it would take just over three liters of laquer to cover it to give depth and shine, and that would leave enough materiel to flat back and polish. all the same take it back to the painter and let him know you are not a happy bunny, there is no excuse for runs being left on your car as they are easy to rectify.

That sounds crap. If you're not happy, tell the guy and make him do it again. There's no excuse for a bad job from a supposed pro painter. Ideally you should not use more than 15% thinners but I never use more than 10%. I like my paint sticky which is harder to run, gives good thickness per coat which makes colour sanding easier.
If the paint runs, then it should be sorted whilst wet to reduce the work getting rid when dry.

Like I said earlier, tell him you're pissed off and make him do it properly. If still not happy, don't pay the f***er.  I've refused to let people take their cars till I'm totally happy with the finish.

Mik.

What type of paint was it?

As said if your not happy, he should sort it.

But it depends what kind of job you had done.

If it was just a freshen up, same colour & no primer then you don't need much paint.

But if a different colour or areas of primer or bodywork was done then it sounds like not enough paint was used, you should see blemishes etc through the paint.

There should be no visable runs.

get what you pay for usually. you need total confidence in someone before you let them loose on your car with a spray gun, if they have any pride intheir work they shouldn't let you have it back in any state like that. if you've got most of the paint left, then don't pay his and wet block it down with 800s, you may be lucky and buff it out but i doubt it. then pay for a proper guy to do it. Your a bit south for me sorry.

2 pack is easy to spray so there should be no reason for a poor finish.

If the job is crap then I agree that the guy shouldn't get paid, you did the hard work anyway, spraying is the easy part
