I popped up the motorway to meet dave yesterday, on the way some dick in a german sports car
ya know the one with two seats and the engine in the boot
well he didnt like my old xr4i pulling away from him all the time so it lead to some full throttle action.
i beet him hands down but
my old problem got worse

i lost gears on kick down and latter found i lost 1st

got to see dave and the box was to hot, allowed it to cool and it drove ok on the way back, well for 5 miles then she started to heat up again and loose gears

got to  2 miles from home and BANG, crunch crunch,,, oopps i thought.
stopped allowed it to cool and pottered on, at the end of the road i lost all drive again,
after cooling again i managed to eak it to my drive
but
reverse just locks the wheels,
used a trolly jack to back in in place

not looked to far but  my nice red fluid is now metalic brown,
this morning i found the oil stat was fully closed and jamed, so thats going in the bin......

scratch one auto box

time for the r55 me thinks

na cant risk leaving the house yet. as ya know i paif the wife off and she has gorn but along with taking more than she should, not paiding off what she owed.
she has not handed the keys to me for the house, since i would need to change 6 locks at £40 each, i cannot afford to change them all.
also she has been in the back garden taking stuff to,

action has been taken but i really dont wanna leave the house for to long

in short,, i aint comming,, but will be over in the near future//

p.s, the controler has been quoted at $970 plud post,inc loom,,,yikes!

hello tony,

shoot the bi........ , oeps, dont let me bring you on idea's. but i can understand the frustration. maybe a complaint against her, at the police station can do wunders.

as for efe, next year beter. sort your problems first, thats more important.

as for the controller, i will have to buy a controller when i switch the gearbox for a r55 in the blue capri v8, but thats for next year. its not cheap, i agree, but i want to do it wright. but first i have to finish the black capri and get it back on the road.

Well as I said just before it happened your box was overheating for some reason.

You should have took it easy back but you being you, I bet you probably floored it  

Get that new box in it, change your diff & monitor your temps this time  

Will get a sub 6 sec 0-60 yet I am sure

i had no option but to take it easy, gez it took me 5 stops on a 20min trip.

i cant help but think there is a connection,, i have a buggered diff and now the box, i agree it could well be debris.
but
if you remember i did mention the fact there was skid marks around the workshop when i collected the car after the work was done,
now going on the fact i couldnt wheel spin with the auto in a straight line, how did he do it?
i wonder if it was a case of rev up to 4k rpm and slot in in drive,, this could well have been the case, would also explain the diff and box issuse. also it was never as smooth as it was in the granada after this, i put this down to the xr4i not being as heavy! it seems i was wrong.

how ever after having a long chat with an auto expert localy it seems we figured it out, the problem with the box was heat as you say but from what i can see so far, the box was on its way out since the car was in for repare (hence not being so smooth), it was making more heat due to this. the cooler held it for a time but as the problem grew so did the heat,
this become a localised overheated area at the point where the failing part was (hence improved performance when cold), this just got worse and worse untill the oil became so hot the oil seals failed and oil stat failed due to overheat to (the stat is now jammed on bypass) this cut the cooling down and so it got worse and worse.


i am going to replace the box and remove the stat, i will add a temp gauge where the stat is now and a temp gauge in the sump of the box.

but you might be able to do me a favour, i want a pcs controler and i dont wanna pay inport dutys,, ya not coming over soon are ya

im sure thay cant charge you import tax and all that if you are sent a gift

oh you think?

i did that last time, so they charged duty on the postage, handling charge and vat,, was more that the import dutys would have been

me thinks they are getting wise to that one!
