Yess that's true.

Finding a decent Ford pinto or Ford Cologne V6 engine isn't that easy anymore while you can find plenty of Duratec engines.

Duratec engines may not be plug and play like the Ford pinto or Ford Cologne V6 engines the Duratec is a far beter engine with a added bonus that's it is much lighter in weight and more parts available.

True.
Although anything can be machined. And pinto is atlast very widely spread, and tons of tuning stuff available.

Duratec HE-s drawback is that it is fwd (except mx5 nc and Ranger in the US).
I made the intake myself because with fwd intake the throttle body would have been somewhere in the firewall.
Sump and water outlet are cheaper to get from the US. rather than the aftemarket ones.
Also gearbox, i have type9 currently, but i'd rather get a mx5 one. Not that easy to find here though.

You hardly find a decent pinto anymore. At least not for normal money. There is just 1 stock Ford Pinto 2.0 Engine And 4 sp gearbox for sale on ebay for asking price: £1,500.00 Approximately EUR 1,751.26. https://www.ebay.ie/itm/363242512666?hash=item5492f0e11a:g:jMcAAOSwNGJdd59i

Yess you still find a lot of parts for the pinto as these engines are more produced and raced over a time span of 31 years.

The days you went to the car breakers or in your friends shed and found a few pinto's are long gone. Back then I had several pinto blocks stacked up in the garage. The last 2.0 Pinto 207 block, rebuild and with a plug and play injection that i sold was in 2005 for 1k. Seeing the price now i wished i kept all those pintos.

I must be getting old..............

Yeah, their prices have gone up. Still the go to engines for Escorts etc. Ebay prices are always high, but common on FB for 600 range.
Ofcourse depending on location. I could buy up all the pintos where i live and pop them on ebay for 10x price.

On another note, you have the Duratec30 from a Jag right? Is it the same Bellhousing pattern as the Duratec 25 in the Mondeo?

I have a Duratec V6 from a jag in my Taunus 20M. The bell housing is slightly different as the Jag has 4 more bolts in the bottom of the bell house and 1 on the side. You need to use the Jag sump. https://locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=64063

The getrag 221 (s-type) does fit the duratec 25 V6 from a ford Mondeo. However the Getrag 221 has no overdrive. The 5e gear is 1:1. If i am correct informed you could used the internals of a BMW getrag 220 gear box to get a real overdrive.

I have the Ranger sump on my HE and the bolt holes don't line up with the aftermarket bellhousing also, so i don't have any there also.

I don't think you need all bolts. Only Jag has 4 extra bolts in the sump and 1 extra in the block. There are still 6 bolts left together with 2 dowels.

I like it.

Its also sold in a '15 to '19 Transit with a 6 speed automatic. Sadly with only 275 hp they had the lowest HP output of all the 3.7 and they were only sold in the states.

That will replace the Boa in the Fiesta, you saw in the video

Boa-s bearings got hurt, when tensioner bits clogged up the oil pickup :'( new big end bearings installed, but not gonna bother replacing the guides. Had a thought going duratec HE, but this Duratec37 got offered.

Very common with high mileage or high stressed 24v Cosworth. Most people forget that with only 20.000 BOA/BOB produced by Ford and the last produced 24v BOB is already 24 years old now and a rebuild can get expensive as parts for the 24v BOA / BOB are rare for the last 10 years, how hard it is to say for me and you are right about that, its time to move on. If you want a decent Ford engine Duratec's are the way to go.

I totally agree with you.
They were best bang for the buck for getting easy bolt on Power.
The bearings said Ford on them, so  ;D that part was not touched by anyone.
I guess i'll make some sort of "art" with it, i still like that engine, just yeah parts hard to get or not available.

Hell, if someone gave me a Tesla powertrain, i'd do it.

*The future is now old man* :P

We already looked into it. The drive train is small and easy to fit/covert. Its the big and heavy battery pack and the electronics of the Tesla that would be a problem. To make the Telsa battery pack fit you will need to re-design the floor of the car. As for the electronics i would go for a separated engine controller/energy recovery system and a traction control would be nice due the instant torque.

a conversion with Telsa parts can be done and properly already is done. The main concern would be the law. In the Netherlands such a DIY conversion will always be seen as a new car as you have to change more then 30% of the car to make everything like battery pack, motor and drivetrain fit. Because it will be seen as a new car the regulations are much stricter and the cost will be high to make to pass the inspections.
