Phormula knock detection
« on: January 27, 2014, 12:09:23 PM »
Has anyone used these products?

I'm interested in the KS4 pro, it can be linked to the ecu and datalog events.

Cheers Ade

I have no experience with Phormula knock detection device.

Nothing kills a engine faster as high rpm detonation under load.

Is something like the Phormula knock detection device the best? No.

It relays on a piezo ceramic sensors and these sensor needs to be mounted very close to the cylinder head, preferred as close as possible to the combustion camber and that not always possible and a other problem is that the electronic receiver (recording device) is less sensitive.

Most tuners still use something very common, your ears and a (electronic) stethoscope. Granted, most tuners use something like the Phormula knock detection device, but as a back up. Your ears are far more sensitive for chances in sound. A electronic stethoscope can be made very cheap, like this: http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&A=0353

Is something like the Phormula knock detection device needed for every day driving? No.

If you got the final tune, its not needed any more. Most ecu will correct the timing for temp, load, rpm ect.

Cheers Paul  ;) thanks for clearing that up, I'm unsure when it will get a tune  it may be a safeguard till that point then .  But ditch it after or go for the type you linked.

General rule for ignition retard is 1 degree per psi of boost to 3 degree per psi depending on the fuel quality and octane number .
