Title: Cosworth 4x4 front hubs
Post by: scud on May 20, 2019, 20:37:44 PM
as I mentioned sometime earlier ive got a slight clearance issue with my front wheels catching the arch, the offset is just a few mm too wide and I cannot machine the wheel as it would catch the caliper (4pot cos) and cannot space the caliper back as it wouldn't align on the disc properly.

So I was reading on here and saw that using Cosworth 4x4 front hubs and carriers should give me a slightly 10mm? smaller front track, and a better steering angle?  I read up all I could find and it seems a straight swap onto my xr? im using the cosworth 4 pot 286mm brake setup everything else is normal xr parts

do I need to change to shorter steering rods? as I cant work out how the hub carrier could narrow the track without changing them as they a very close to the brake rotors already

Yep there different angles due to the ARB. 4x4 one is longer than the 2wd and the cossie ones are set for a different caster/camber.

Thought of rolling the wheel arches?

Yep I've thought about it plenty, trying to avoid it atm as the paint is new. Would I see any reduction in track and or benefit from fitting 4x4 cossy hubs due to the angle differences

Did you mean the cos arb is set for a different camber/caster

I assume you are talking about changing XR4x4 hubs for Cosworth hubs? The Cosworth hubs indeed give a narrower track and better suspension angles. But the disc offset of the Cosworth is really low, so the calipers won’t fit.

I know this is old now  but for info when i converted my xr4x4 to 4x4 cosworth hubs  i ended up having to change virtually everything to get it to work .

I used cosworth front hubs , cosworth front drive shafts , cosworth  roll bar , cosworth steering rack , cosworth front calipers .

I tried with just the hubs first but couldn,t get  them to bolt up with xr4x4  shafts . once i had the shorter shafts and hubs on i found that the  wheels hit the steering arms and roll bar on full lock  so had to change to cosworth steering rack ( less turning circle to take 7j wheels) .

Once all changed it obviusly worked a dream

Thanks Dave, probably not worth the effort then, since adjustable tca etc would achieve almost the same result

The Cosworth steering rack has limiters in there to stop the wheels from hitting the arb. But Cosworth hubs will give you better handling due to the higher roll center than XR hubs.
