Title: Old BOA head studs
Post by: Heath Robinson on February 01, 2017, 22:33:42 PM
Anyone have a set of ARP head studs that they're no longer using? I'm after a set for the mains, to account for the extra depth of the girdle I'm using.

Cheers
Jake

I bought some 12.9 Allen bolts. I also threaded the block further down.

I've been eyeing a set of them up too, just thought I'd chuck a feeler out to see if there were any of these around first.

Do you mean that you bored the main bolts a little deeper, and then tapped that extra depth? How far did you go, and how necessary do you think it is for an NA motor? I think I'd probably have to get a machine shop to do that, our pillar drill is a bit too shonky for me to trust it not to lay into the existing thread.

I've a few questions about the rebuild process in general that I'm going to put together in a thread, if you wouldn't mind having a squint at it I'd value the advice of those who've done it before!

Cheers

IIRC I didn't drill the holes as the are quite deep but they are not threaded all the way down. , I just cleaned the holes out.

You just need to tap them a bit further down, that way you can use all the same lenght bolts so no need to measure/cut every one individually.

That's loads easier, I'll look out my set of taps then. Do you remember if you just used 110mm bolts, and did you use washers under them, or just tighten them straight against the girdle?
Cheers

I didnt use washers as the bolts would hit the inside of the sump at the nr1 cap.

Also if you need spacers take a look at some old headbolts washers , they are usually pretty thick.
