Right I had a spare plenum and cam covers which I wanted chrome plating    HOW MUCH    NO THANKS
So on second thoughts powder coating, but with all the shot blasting horror stories went looking for some one who used chemical cleaning and here are the results    Chrome powder coating, chemical clean and a very good price.

No problem and here is what I sent

All in a superb job and £200 is all it cost including P&P if its okay and I don't upset any one I will post up the company who did it !

It has a better finish than what my photo's make it look like, there is a good reflection not as good as chrome plating obviosly but its a fifth of the price. It will hand polish with some pledge    but not take a buffing wheel looking at it but will withstand oil and high temperatures. I just sent the bits as they came off the motor but if you took the time to sand them smooth I think the finish would be a lot better.
Can I post the firms web site without treading on anyones toes ? as they have some better pictures.

i would mate and let 'them' take it off if they aren't happy about it.

i used some chrome paint on my plenum and if like you say more time had gone into the prep it would of looked ok, but that stuff doesn't harden properly and won't laquer. looks right enough for the money like eh!

It was done by http://www.aerocoat.net/home.htm]http://www.aerocoat.net/home.htm not sure if any sponsors do powder coating so didn't want to advertise someone else.
The finish looks good but more prep work by me would have made it better. Job was done and returned to me within a week so pretty quick also.

They look real good, not my sort of thing to be honest, but real nice work and in the right bay will look mint

Looks good - can they do it to plastics? I'd like to do it to couple of plastic components in the engine bay but thought the rattlecan stuff Ian used was a bit delicate for the heat and cleaning needed on occasion.

IansSaph

i thought the process of powder coating involved electro whatsiting the material so it stuck.... hard with plastic....

and the rattle can stuff is proper shite!!! you can't laquer it or polish it or touch it with out it dulling....

andykay

Not sure about plastics    email them is the quickest way to find out but I think it has to be metal for the powder coat to stick before its baked in the oven so plastic would probably melt.

Yeah, but you can put a charge into a baloon right? so it makes your hair stand on end or cling to a wall...or am i mixing up my scientific babble?

IansSaph

beyond me mate, walk in with your header tank, rub it on your jumper, stick it to the wall and say "chrome that!"
