Hello and welcome to The Merkur XR4ti it was 2.3 Turbo with no inter-cooler based on The Ford Sierra XR4i V6 mfi, but used a 2.3 pinto/lima unit. Built in Germany at the Karmann Factory for the North american market, but Ford USA didn't want a small European car to add to there line of cars and GM had used the name of SIERRA on a trim pack for one of there pick up's. The Merkur was sold under the Lincoln Mercury dealer name and sold as the European inport car.
HOW MANY ARE IN THE UK TODAY ?
It was also used in European touring car racing 1985 / 86 By Andy rouse, Eggenberger and more, before the Infarmous Sierra Cosworth came to be the new ruler of the roost in 1987 with it's all new twin-cam 16v head that was spoted sat in the Cosworth workshop as a project. who would of known hey.

Cool cars, have a huge cult following in north America. One thing I will add is it's a common misconception (including myself until corrected) that it's not a 2.3 pinto engine. It's known as the Lima, however they're very similar. Parts aren't interchangeable as the block is longer (front the back) compared to the pinto.

Fancy not knowing it's a Lima ... I thought it was quite similar to the normal pintos though??

They are very similar - the 2.3 just looks like it's slightly scaled up so although the design is almost identical bits from one don't fit the other.
