I've been on Alan's dyno. I did a comparison of dyno's a few years back.

Pretty much all dyno's are the same mate, once you start pushing the power you run into over heating problems no matter how good the fans are.
Power runs are fine but if your holding an engine on a load trying to dial in fuel & ignition you have to keep stopping.

I used to spend like 6 hours at a time on the dyno, 3 of them used to be drinking coffee waiting for things to cool down.  :thd:

Alan's is a good dyno, gives a decent average result compared to others, it gave higher torque figures below 4000rpm at +10% but was within 1% after that compared to my control dyno.

I have still not pushed mine to the max yet, it seems to be very happy around the 16psi mark which is 400bhp / 420 lbs on 95ron fuel, proving to be reliable & stupidly fast.

Just been too busy with life in general & lack motivation at the moment.

I hit a wall at 450bhp it's never wanted to go over it, it's from back pressure in the exhaust system.
Still have not tested it since I have done a few mods, my mates at Power Station have closed down, so I am very reluctant to take it anywhere else as they used to let me use their dyno for peanuts so cost are going to be a factor now.

See what the new year brings  :2tu:

Popped down to Alan Jeffery's this morning to see what on the road tweaking has given me ..........

Only sierra they have ever had in the club !!  :o

AFR and boost on this plot with max power figure at the wheels  ;D

Cannot complain at these numbers !

Nice to have someone who knows their dyno inside and out .

Revs stop at the same figure as the ecu datalog so I'm satisfied on the accuracy of this power run .

It was Martin (Alan's son ) operating the dyno and was lifting before redline as power already dropping away .

Leaving it where it is now - more torque would be very easy if I wanted it and 550 bhp ?may? be possible if I pushed 2 bar boost at the top end .

Matt

Marc

A great result for all the effort you've put in! I bet it's fantastic to drive!   Are you still on the standard gearbox? If so, I would have expected it to give in with all that torque.

Thanks guys , it's been a journey

Marc I'm using Fixit "street race "gearkit ( closer ratio big tooth semi straight cut ) , plated rear diff , uprated centre viscous , strengthened front diff and GGR driveshaft CV joints all round .

I'm not into launching cars - although very tempted with this to get some 0-? times - and it seems to be perfectly happy with these parts + uprated fluids throughout .

Well done Matt.

In my view that is one of the best dyno graphs of any sub 3.0L engine I have ever seen.

Completely usable power available for over 3000rpm & a lot of it.

Most powerful V6 12v Cologne on high octane fuel ever built.  :2tu:

Really well done that is such a peach  :2tu: i mean the standard engine seemed quick but that power and torque is insane really makes me want to do another v6

Had a chat with the head tech guy at Omex , going to be configuring flatshift , gear dependant shift light , and gear dependant boost control next .

Very easy to do , just flatshift will be a bit of a chore to get settings right to make it smooth .

The turbos aren't laggy at all , but it still takes between 0.25-0.4 seconds for the boost to maximise after gearchange !

Now I have full power , the car is accelerating so quickly that I don't achieve full boost in second ( and the turbos spool slightly late in the rev range )
and I'm missing a small amount of boost in third .

1st gear obviously is worse with the boost but as I am completely on the limit for traction , it can remain how it is !!

Ah yes , gauges .

Yeah Dave , that's pretty much what my engine guy said .

Any comments on Racetech's range as engine guy thinks they are good .

He has also suggested an Innovate afr display .

The reason I'm asking is I want as few as possible .

I don't really want to lose the centre air vents like many owners need to do to fit additional gauges .

Cheers

Matt

HI matt
how much power can this gear up grade take and is it for the type 9 box or is it for the mt75 somthing thank

T4T

Hi there .

Not sure exactly what they are rated to but seems happy enough with my torque - time will tell - so should be okay for most engines using mt75 box .

I believe there is a 6/700 bhp escort cossie using one without issues so far that regularly drag races .

Matt

I matt
i have the type 9 not the mt75 sot that is why i have to work with

Engine has not been entirely happy lately so booked it in for a health check ............

Compression test results :

Cylinder 1               140 psi
Cylinder 2               140 psi
Cylinder 3               140 psi
Cylinder 4               140 psi
Cylinder 5               135 psi
Cylinder 6               140 psi   but a little lazy getting there

Leakdown test results :

Cylinder 1               3%
Cylinder 2               3%
Cylinder 3               3%
Cylinder 4               3%
Cylinder 5               13%
Cylinder 6               4%

:(

So gaskets are on order and we'll see why soon .

Matt

T4T

Yippee .............
not headgasket .

valve leak on the seat .

No need to detune !!

;D

That's a bit of a bonus then  :2tu:

How long will that mean it is off the road for though?

T4T

It will be back together by the end of the weekend !!

Thanks Pete

goes quite well   :o

As always , not a lot changed because always too busy .
BUT ,
the reason the engine wasn't happy was the fuel pressure regulator was starting to fail .
The car has also had a new alternator - improvement - and a new map sensor - much better - so the engine has had to be remapped for fuelling .
Boost and ignition timing are still the same as before , just fuelling altered .

550 lbft and 534 hp .
Done at Alan Jefferies again by my engine guy Steve .

 :2tu:

There may be more to come at the top end yet , need to make up my mind if I want to try !!

Matt

T4T

Decided that AFR was a little lean for my liking at peak torque and wanted to see if I could improve the top end at all so revisited dyno again .....  ;)

Lost a little torque by richening up midrange  :'( but gained some up the top with some more ignition advance .

Engine development complete !!!!!

Very ,very happy ! Never thought I would end up with this much !

Boost max is 1.7 bar at 5900 rpm .

Gained 50 hp right at the top !!

Nice curves.  Bet you're well pleased with that.
Drive it like you mean it!

T4T

Cheers :2tu:

Absolutely chuffed as , haven't opened it up yet though to measure the acceleration improvement .

I'm expecting it to "feel" the same as peaks haven't changed that much but it should be noticeably faster through the gears with the extra power/torque over the last 1000 revs .

It is silly quick though !!

All the hard work has paid off. Very good results.

Well done Matt

Ten years ago people would of laughed at you for even claiming this was possible, you kept with it and look there it is!

Fantastic.

Hi all , been busy as always but been doing bits and pieces when I can .  ;D

Been working on ducting for the intercooler / radiator set up .

Since starting to make proper power (after rolling road mapping last year ) the coolant temps climb when running on sustained throttle through the gears up to high speeds ,

nothing bad ( 96C )but the recovery time for the temps to drop again " could " have been an issue on track - when I eventually get there !!

Now sorted though !

Less temp increase and nice very quick recovery .

I'm upgrading the front brakes at the moment and it will be ready for some abuse on track next year  :2tu:

Matt

T4T

Finally got my new front brake set up on the car , no pics though .

Found the "feel " with the hi spec calipers not to my liking since I went bias pedal box . They work absolutely fine , just the " feel " wasn't as I wanted .

Now got some AP 6 pots on the car and because the car has ended up so quick , carefully worked out the best choice of brakes to get the biggest discs I could on the car .

343mm rotors on custom bells with custom caliper brackets as well , cp5560 calipers all under 17" wheels .

Very happy with the feel now and ready for some abuse at last .

Matt

T4T

Woohoo

Track day booked at last

6th of April , praying it's dry .

Matt

Good luck and don't crash it!!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I hope you have a good time and let us know how it went.

Just bought a camera as well - garmin virb ultra 30 - so hopefully get some decent footage .

Excited and nervous at the same time , will be taking it steady .

Matt

I'd click the like button for the last few posts if there was one  ;D
Will be good to see some track footage though, where abouts are you going on track?
