Im trying to findout if i can ditch the quad pulley with the four belts on my xr4i engine, and swap it for a multibelt from a 12v 2.9. Imlooking for a bit more space between engine and radiator. I have a dual pulley on my pas, and a single one on my alternator, but the one on the cranck has one more for airco, not present in my car, dont want it either, and is quite spacy. So, if i can use one belt for all the parts, with a proper tensioner, it would give just that bit more space.

Im wondering, the alternator needs a new pulley, and maybe a complete new bracket, or should i use a alternator from a sierra dohc? That engine has the multibelt system.
And what abouth the pas? I have a cooled pas, with the pump on the right hand side if you look from behind. Alsohave one for the other side from a 2.3 ghia, but, its not colled, and thats gonna be the turbo side, so i need that space!

Anyone tips or advice? Or anyone done it before?

Cheers

Timo

I don't think you will gain any space mate.
The last Scorpio 2.9's have that set up.

A non aircon 2.8 or 2.9 v belt pulley is your best bet I think.

Damn, i was hoping to find a way to use one belt, instead of 3, becouse ill need to make a boost pipe just in front of the engine

Does the boost pipe foul all the pulleys or just the crank?

You could have the pulley machined.

Isn't it possible for 1 belt to run over all the pulleys?

Dave

All the later type crank pulleys I have seen have an extra step for the aircon.

They stick out the same as a non aircon 2.9 pulley.

The later 2.9's use one belt for everything except the aircon just like the 24v.

You may gain some space around the water pump area but also loose some around the alternator as it's further forward.
