OK this is a bit of a mad idea that a mate and i have had, should be a bit different if we take it on

dont want to divulge to much atm but i need some info on a few bits

we plan to drop a BOA lump with a manual box on it in it, what would be needed to connect the speedo and tacho up to the bug eyes dash, will a box drop straight onto the bugs subframe? i under stand the BOA's ecu and wiring are far simpler so would be dumping most of the bugs wiring (oh the fun!!) would the pats still be needed to keep the central locking working? no doubt i'll be adding some more questions

The bugeye used the 12v and 24v as well.

They were also fitted with MT75.

You might have to source a manual box crossmember, don't know if the auto member is the same.

It should drop straight in then.

For speedo you need to use the cogs in the box and VSS fitted to the gearbox that was in the bugeye's original setup.

AFAIK the cogs and VSS are interchangeble so should be easy.

Dumping PATS is possible if you use the BOA complete loom, but I don't know if the remote still works.

I don't think Ford sends the immo code with the remote to open the door.

I think PATS is only disarmed with the right key/chip in the ignition barrel.

Someone will know something more about that.......

reason for using a BOA in a bug is i know a good BOA lump for sale and i know of a 4 pot bug again in good cond, ive got a spare manual box for a v6 in my garage just sitting doing nothing hence manual convo again, cross member shouldnt be a prop as ive got a manual box in my BOB scorpio and had no problems with that fitting. wasnt sure about the engine mounting arms. may have to either bypass the pats and run the BOA on a boa ecu unless a bob ecu can run a boa?

In theorie the BOB ECU should be able to run a BOA, but the BOB has a cam sensor for sequential injection and it uses a variable intake manifold.

BOA loom is easier but you "just" have to rewire the whole car.......

As far as I am aware the only exterior connection on the PATS is the common use of the PATS LED by the alarm.




The PATS is not so difficult once you get your head round it and know how it is wired up, which is not to difficult. Thanks to some of the guys on here I have got the pats up and running and have figured how it works. I have a wiring diagram!!!!

However I do not know if the BOA ECU uses the pats signal as I am using a BOB.

The Granada doesn't use PATS.

External PATS used in Mondeos and Escorts can be circumvented.

Internal PATS used in later models is inside the ECU, and can't be swapped from car to car unless you have all the keys and antenna etc.

But using a PATS-less BOA in a Scorpio shouldn't be a problem I think.

Then run the engine off either an after market one or in your case a BOA one.

Not as simple as it sounds but is said to be the best option.

Thanks for All the replies guys, much appreciated, and by the sounds of it is making this little project a bit more realistic on my budget! now just need to see if the block wants to sell his car to us and get the grinders out!

Wouldn't it be easier to install a MS with the original mapping beside the stock ECU? The MS runs the engine and the stock ECU the other crap...
