Exhaust heat wrap

I'm planning to wrap my Boa exhaust manifolds before i fit the engine to the car can anyone offer advice on fitting the stuff ?
i plan to remove the manifolds and wrap and refit before installing the engine ,
is this the best route ?
has anyone used the spray coatings i see avalable now?
how do you get a tidy wrap on the manifold headers without going back over yourself ?
are there any particularly bad products to avoid?

I have wrapped mine
I tried it with one icy wide first waste of time I finally done it with two inch wide stuff and held in place with stainless steel cable ties

I wrapped mine with 2 inch wrap.

Its very timeconsuming I have to say.

If you don't take them off its almost impossible.

Put them in a vice and wrap away.

Make sure you have enough clearance for the nuts to go back on, I couldnt get a socket on afterwards and had to get some 10mm headed nuts.

just take your time, keep it nice and tight and expect to have a few goes before before you get it right. If your using the stainless ratchet straps then watch your finger tips, the cut ends are like razors.

Hello,

I am also planning to wrap my exhaust, and the firm that i bought my wrapping stuff from advised me to let the wrapping soak in a bit of water first, and than wrap it arround the exhaust, it should then "glue" itself together. You still will have to use something to keep it in place.

Havnt tried it myself yet, so i dont know for sure if it works, maybe worth to trie it with a little bit of wrapping.

I have tried it both wet and dry.  Wet is far easier to apply as you get a bit of "give" in the tape.  I used the stainless steel tywraps on the bits I did dry in 2 inch tape and the overall result looks rubbish.  I then did a pair of manifolds in 1 inch tape applied wet and held it in place with 0.8 mm stainless steel lockwire.  Looks a much better job.  I have coated it all in the Thermotec spray as it makes it last a lot longer.
