Don't know if it makes any difference and I guess it could be that the late model 2.9s are different, but they look nothing like the pistons in my 2.9

I'll ask the seller about it -  how exactly are they different?

Super 12v

They're nothing more than standard piston which would be used in a CAT engine in the UK. Are they cheap? well depends what you're trying to achieve... I've refreshed standard bottom end with new rings and old pistons and just check the bore and broken the glaze (note : not hone) and not encountered a problem as yet. So I don't think I'd ever replace like for like in all honesty. They're heavy pistons for a revvy N/A engine and weak for a blown engine (after a point). So my advice is if looking to renew pistons look at some good quality items.

Ah ha, Rob answered my question there, they are late model cat ones. Just for interests sake here is a pic of what mine look like, slightly different design;

Well I'm thinking of using them in my 2.8 for the compression ratio, so I can run a reasonable amount of boost... like 9 or 10 psi
I'm not to bothered tho, as its a 2.8... if it dies, I'll get another engine   one thats worth spending decent money on to make special.

thanks for clearing up the confusion over the differences.

Dave

Well they are like 15 quid a piston.

Cheap in anyones book that.

Ask them about rings as probably cheaper than here but the weak pound is starting to cost us big time now so maybe not.

Enlarge the bowls on them aiming for a 8 to 1 compression but don't touch the sides of the piston & don't be tempted to push more than 10psi.

Get the fueling & ignition right. Then they will last donkey years

Detanation will kill them after a few K.

Got a Microdynamics EMS5 "Turbo ignition magagement" box for the sparks and a Turbotechnics fueling block (used for 240bhp kits) for the metering head BUT I'm on the lookout for an additional injector kit.

EDIT - seeing as it was the last set, I took a punt on the £3.50 each chromoly pushrods  AND just come of the phone to the seller, and soon to be previous owner of my new Microdynamics PIC 5 auxilary petrol enrichement system with MPS 7 pressure switch
