i need to get my 4i back from jockland,will my 1.8 mondeo have enough guts to tow a trailer plus the 4i? how much will it cost to get a tow bar fitted?gonna cost to much for a car transporter,diesel etc.

cheers for the info mate but i need to pick it up as its on a farm and dont want to mess them about as there busy people and old etc...my girlfriends dad has a ford ranger pick up,that should be ok huh?

Max gross weight for the combined tow, trailer and load is 3.5T if I remember correctly.

Ranger will be 1.5T Easy
4i is about 1.4T from memory.


But the police probably don't know much about it. As long as it looks safe and stable and you keep to a sensible speed they will not think about it.

Are you uysing a 4 Wheel trailer? the trailer MUST be braked as well.

I used my XR4x4 to pull the estate on a trailer when I picked it up and I can tell you that wasn't much fun and I only went about 50 miles. It spent all its time trying to push me straight on through the corners

I got pulled by the 5-0 last week in the recovery truck with a mondeo on the back which was full of spares/engine bits so was well over the 3.5t carrying weight    checked my details, looked over the truck and made sure the car wasnt nicked even had a friendly chat before sending me on my way  

I`ve got proper heavy duty bump stops so it doesnt look overloaded, afew weeks back I had a ton and three quarters on there in scrap and it never looks like it was dragging its arse on the floor........so as long as the tow car and trailer are in good condition and like TT says drive safely you`ll be fine.

I have towed my 4be on a 4 wheel trailer with my 2 ltr Sierra estate, Northampton to Swindon, well over the legal tow limit but pulled well.  I have also towed the 4be on my A frame with the estate from Swindon up to Coventry and back, no problem.  It halves your fuel economy but you would use twice the fuel to drive both of them and twice as much time.

cheers for the replys guys but looks like one of the calipers are shot on the  back of the mondy so...think i'll just hire a hgv recovery truck or some some sort of transit recovery truck for the day.expensive things these bloody sierras,on my 8th now and still havnt learnt ha ha

Use the ranger m8 they're built for towing and coppers wouldn't look twice at ya
