long term car storage

Looks like the 4i is heading for the barn.my girl friends grandad has a farm in scotland and has a few large barns for storage.lost my job last week and struggling to find a new one.it runs out of mot in january and tax in december.dont want to sell it and prob wouldnt get alot for it in these sihtty times.
whats the best thing in preperation to try and preserve it?

its crap mate.pulling my hair out.i dread to think whats its going to be like after xmas.ive signed up to four different agencies and still no work.

When ever I've stored cars I've always given them a real thourgh clean, get all the road salt and stuff off. When its all nice and dry a coat of WD40 on everything under the car to protect it. No matter what you do they always rust a bit

No help with your car mate but, have a word with some of the drilling companies offshore for a job, most of the drilling and service companies have been screaming for people for months now. Most of the young guys don't want to go offshore but the time off is great.

sorry to hear that you lost your job. i hope you find a decent job again. dont let people tell you cant find a job in this economic crisis. even i found a job 2 weeks ago. not a dream job, but its decent money.

Well depends how long your storing it but say 1 year +

Keep it in a dark dry location.

Remove battery.

Take the weight off all the wheels. (On stands)

& as said clean it well, wax it & don't close all the windows as the interior needs to air.
Use a fly screen or sheet over the openings to stop dust etc including that cat (always one) from spraying on your seats

taking it up scotland this friday to be put away for god knows how long lol.got myself a mondeo this week a 1.8 y reg 52000 miles fsh £1300 so gonna get a tow bar on that and sorce a trailer for the 4i for f/f next year.
