johnny, i have driven a twin cam bult by mike it really shocked me.

yes a twincam boat achor with well over 250bhp and the torque was owsome.

Think it was in a TRV race car but came up for sale. CanÃ,,Ã,,žÃ,t find the post!

Do you have any info about the engine? If is still around? In what condition? Was it reliable in the race car and how long before it needed a rebuilt? What power did it make and so on...?

Hi Knut,  the tvr race car made 450 hp at about 16 psi iirc but could have made 500.  Class rules said they had to use 350 hp or something like that depending on chassis weight.  It did 2 seasons of racing before they switched to a modified speed 6 engine for commercial reasons.  That was utter rubbish for the 2 seasons   the engine came out 14 times in the last season.

Now they want to use the 24v again:)  I just cleaned it up inside and reshelled it. The old shells weren't worn though and nothing else needed doing.  I did fit a stud kit to the heads.

Your engine is to a higher specification.  It has Gen 3 coated pistons and iirc some head porting which means it must have had bronze valve guides installed?  You can't port the heads without removing the guides first.

Dave aka Stealth has my best engine build but he's been to busy to run it. He has fully ported heads and big exhaust valves.  I have the parts to do one more of those engines.

Dave, I guess youÃ,,Ã,,žÃ,ve got the MAIN engine/setup especially with those really nice VNT turbos. Will give you a lot of HP and a nice torque curve!

I believe I read some where that your turbos where designed for petrol engines, but are they special made for your engine or some kind of raced engine? I guess itÃ,,Ã,,žÃ,s not a standard turbo from a production car?  WhatÃ,,Ã,€¹€œs the chance of finding them used then? None?  

I guess a VNT Turbo form a diesel engine (thatÃ,,Ã,,žÃ,s widely available) will fail cause of the heat?  

I just love the idea of VNT turbos with the ability to give max boost all the way from low rpm to max rpm!

Just think about what a diesel engine used to be, slow and grumpy, but now, with VNT turbos (+ upgraded diesel management system) they are quick, lively and a joy to drive!!  (as much joy that a diesel can be of course  )

That's 1000 each by the way.

Basically they are made from 3 different turbo's.

Geoff designed his own exhaust castings for them of which only 150 of them was cast.
He designed it to take a wastegate & to be able to take petrol combustion temperatures.

They are expensive but there again no other turbo of the same max flow spec can match them for spool up or lag.

A couple of STD T3's hit's 16psi at 4500rpm these do it before 2500.  The STD t3's make 4 psi at that rev  

So I have 2000rpm of advantage, this also means I can run higher gearing hence less fuel etc etc.

So if it all works out the engine will be a dream of a drive on the road with good power, very good mpg & should kick ass on the track to.

I got lucky my VNT's are 2nd hand, they came from a V6 Mits FTO that was raced on the track & made 750bhp with them.
They was however stripped & rebuilt by TT.

& I have done a few mods on them myself to try & improve them even more.



To sum up.
They won't give me any more max torque or HP than STD T3's but in reality them figures are not that important.

It's the shape of your torque graph that counts ???????

I totally agree with you thinking! In my case I donÃ,,Ã,,žÃ,t need the 500-600hp+++ at 7500rpm, because the engine is going in to a Capri road car.
I'll always having trouble getting enough grip on the rear wheels to handle that kind of power and you donÃ,,Ã,,žÃ,t need the massive hp at max rpm driving on the road.
But with VNT turbos youÃ,,Ã,,žÃ,ll alter the characteristics of the engine radically and get the toque in early and make the engine more suitable   for the road.

DAVE if you ever hear about a set of nice second hand VNTÃ,,Ã,,žÃ,s please let me know  
If I have to buy new VNTÃ,,Ã,,žÃ,s I think I have too spend my money other places first, havenÃ,,Ã,,žÃ,t even got a car ready to install the engine into and T3Ã,,Ã,,žÃ,s (new I think) are delivered with the engine.

By the way! The engine would be ready for shipping this week, Monday or Tuesday hopefully!

i am already talking whit a other company to ship it, whit some luck there will be no problems anymore. the only problem is that is costing more money now. if i had a car, where i can fit a pallet in, i would get it my self, but the trunk off a capri is to small.
