DVLA jobsworths

Has anyone else run into grief simply informing the DVLA of their engine changes? They are asking me for evidence of the engine change such as garage receipts, AA/RAC reports, letters from Ford confirming engine size etc.

Think you have got unlucky.

Maybe they check every 1 in 1000 or something as I have never had a problem either.

I sent mine away - no problems. FYI I am the single point of contact at Ford for the DVLA for car ID queries anyway so if I can help let me know.

mine's still a 2.8 on the log book.its a 2.9 24v now,thought it didnt matter as long as its still in the same tax band???

Only thing about not telling the DVLA of engine changes is that I can see your insurance company not paying out if you had to claim

right just got off the phone to swansea and ive got to write a letter confirming that i did the work myself and what car the engine came from and they reckon they will sort it out . fingers crossed

damn thats a pain in the arse

i didnt have a problem with my transit from 2.5 diesel to 2.9 petrol

my daily driver transit i fitted a 2.5 diesel insted of the 2.0 petrol - ive never altered it on the log book, not had a problem so far passed mot's etc. and its even LEZ complient

but ive got the transit mk6 cosworth one to do soon

all the things they ask for are awkward for me as i didnt buy the donor engine from a garage and i have no intention of getting it inspected by aa or rac

the las one form the manufacturer might be the easyest way to go

I changed an engine in a Mini many years ago, and 2 blokes from the DVLA turned up at my house and insisted they inspect the thing and check the engine number, they confirmed it wasn't nicked then said the new Logbook would be sent by post !
so what was that all about then
Think I'll have to notify them of my change soon as I need the car for early July, I'll write them a letter and get a friend to verify the change, if it's good enough to get a passport it should be enough to get a soddin logbook

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've just battled to get mine insured and now taking her shortly for MOT. But haven't as yet notified them of the engine change.

My plan was to have all the MOT and that done and send a copy of it with to try and ease the questions.

Think I need to make a call, and start begging for a letter.

Keep the updates coming in as keen to see what all happens to various applicants.

Simon is kindly doing me a letter from Ford confirming the engine size (despite such info being in the public domain). Currently waiting on that before getting back to them.

I had a chat with them this morning and was told I have only to send the log book, new engine number and CC, Fuel type if its been changed and would have the log book back within 2 weeks.

Remains to be seen though looking at the above

mine went through with no probs
changed from a diesel to petrol

all i did was send a photo copy of the MOT cert along with a photo copy of the log book from the granny

I do wonder if some of the above probs are due to requesting a log book at the same time.

how do you mean ? the car im putting the engine in has been in my name for 2years , i only changed my address and put in the new engine size and number in the proper places then i got that letter .

I got the log book through for mine first then sent it off with just the engine change only.

guess you better write me a letter then, i sent the log book off a while back to get it into my name cos i had forgotten to do it when it comes back i'll be sending it off again with the new engine details. I reckon they are getting hot on it cos of the new car tax brackets, not that it applies to mosy of our cars.

I dont think its to do with the new Tax brackets, I think its more to do with ringing and stolen parts.

If the engine numbers being provide still show up as belonging to a vehicle still on there records and they have no record of it being scrapped then they might then be more inclined to look into the matter.

yeah i think thats the problem with mine i bought a sierra with a bob engine in already and im now putting it in another sierra and i have no paperwork from the first engine change , i reckon if you put some old mot's in with your log book and write a letter explaining what is going on they will be ok , its like taps says these cars get ripped off all day long and dvla have had enough . but i dont care at least i know if some little toerag tries to register anything from my car dvla will be on the case and hopefully get it back to me

when i changed the transit the donor granada was not down as being scrapped and they never contacted me but .... it was in my name, mabe thats why

I seriously doubt their system is clever enough to cope with such advanced things as cross-referencing one database to another. I suspect the reason for all this papertrail they are requesting is so they have something to shuffle on their desks to make themselves look busy and justify their jobs.

Mine just came through the door, new number on it, no questions asked
I do wonder if it may be if the vehicle it came out of hasn't been reported scrapped, sounds reasonable................. mind you, when where the DVLA ever reasonable
