Is this pump mounted in a big rubber and isolated from the cars body? Do you use rubber hoses to connect the pump or a steel line.

You want these pumps as close as possible to the fuel tank and filter and underneat (outside) the car.

On the end of the new pump is an attachment which is screwed into the inlet side and i think this is something to do with it.

Nope, its a 1 way valve to keep the pressure on the fuel system.

It sounds like the pump is working extremely hard as if there is a partial blockage somewhere

Check if the return line is not blocked. Did you use the original fuel lines and pick ups?

The 044 pumps are noisy. They are even more noisy if they have to work hard or do not get enough fuel.

Only thing I can add to Pauls post is check & monitor the fuel pressure at the injector rail.

If it's erratic then your sucking air somewear or there is a problem with the tank pick-up.

That will make the pump noisy if its the case.

The 1 way valve is to keep the pressure on the fuel system, even if the engine is stopped. This way the pump doesn't need to build up pressure again from zero.

So dont remove it.

So is it ok to just remove the one way valve and use the pump without it? Dave i like what your saying about it sucking in air because that is what it sounds like, but if it was sucking in air wouldnt it leak fuel aswell? I have had a good poke around and i cant find any leaks.

It depends on where the fuel pump is situated, could be that the outlet from the swirl pot is wrong as it will naturally have air in it have you any pics of your setup ?

You probably do not have a leak mate but the pump will suck air if not plumbed up right like the pick-up from the tank etc, they shift so much fuel it actually becomes a problem if the rest of the system is not up to it. The pumps need to be as close to the tank as possible for a start.

If air is mixing with the petrol the pumps are as noisy as hell & it sometimes shows as erratic fuel pressure.

I never used a external swirl pot for my capri's.

For the capri mk1 /1.5 i modified the plug at the bottom of the tank as a output to a big fuel filter and than to the pump. I used the original fuel line as a return.

For the capri mk2 or 3, I used either a 2.8i tank (best option) or modified the tank by opening it and make a swirlpot in the tank.

It even has the original fuel pump.

I also modified the floor of a capri and used a escort fuel tank to use efi in a capri.

A other idea is to use a pump and swirl pot housing from a vauxhull omega, however you still need to do some moding to the tank.

As for the external swirl pots, with a small pump between the original tank and the pot. The little pump don't flow enough to keep up with the injection pumps. That's why I don't use them anymore. Its spending a lote of money and it doesn't work right.
